    Jake E Lee on TMS

Did anyone else catch That Metal Show with Jake as the guest guitarist? I have immense respect for Jake. Was a huge influence on my playing and I love everything he did with Ozzy and Badlands. But, I don't know if it was his tone or, how his cab was mic'ed. He sounded like shit! Not at all what I expected to hear from such a great player. Was it just me?? I couldn't find it on you tube BTW.

Their website is pretty bloated so the video barely plays on my computer.

AHH! Thank you. And, this is by no means meant to shit on Jake. I just didn't think he sounded too great...

Other than how painful it is to watch TMS in the first place, Jake's playing was PARTICULARLY painful to listen to.

I haven't watched this episode yet, but the episode he did the interview on I kinda figured out why the dude has been out of the business for a while. I grew up around alcoholics and that dude is definitely one of em'. He's got that slur to his voice that's all too familiar, the one you get even when you're not drinking.

I haven't really dug any tones I've heard from most of the guitarists on there. There's been a few good ones, but lots of shrill tones that those players aren't generally associated with.

Wow, you're not kidding. His guitar was way out of tune and you couldn't hear a damn thing he was playing. I've heard some pretty dreadful tones on the show, and that takes the cake.

It sucks, because Jake is one of my heroes.

I was bummed when I saw him as well. Not really very inspired playing, kinda phoned it in. Aldrich had decent tone and John5 was entertaining so it is possible to sound good on that show.

Ah, shit, that was just awful...

BTW: How to be a guest guitarist on TMS, with your professor, Michael Schenker.

Awesome tone, dripping with confidence, and plenty of evidence that he's having a good time. Van Halen may get most of the credit for influencing metal guitarists in the 80s, but this is the guy who deserves most of it.
