The "You're not Metal unless you have this album!" thread.

I'm looking to greatly improve my CD collection and I'm looking for ideas. I've been enjoying lots of new stuff that I previously would not have so rather than tell you what I like or have and get you to suggest me something similar, I am looking for a comprehensive list of must own Metal albums.

Everything from that album you are afraid to admit you like cause it's not real metal to the most brutal, any genre, anything that's Metal related and is a must own.

    Isis - Oceanic
    Converge - Jane Doe
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
The Red Chord - Fused Together in Revolving Doors
See You Next Tuesday (, get it?) - Parasite
The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza - S/T
Anaal Nathrakh - When Fire Rains Down from the Sky, Mankind Will Reap as it has Sown
Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity
Dimmu Borgir - Stormblast remastered / Puritanical euphoric Misanthropia
    Ion Dissonance - Solace

Probably a little more extreme / chaotic than most people would define as metal in most cases, but you said anything goes Hopefully you'll find something you like.

    Judas Priest - Painkiller

Carcass - Necrotisism and Heartwork, you must own both

Morbid Angel - Domination (or just pick an alphabet letter and get the album to match)

My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans

    Anathema - Pentacost III

any Deicide album, actually listening to it is optional

something by Mayhem, something by Bathory

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads (more metal than metal)

And of course, you must have a random assortment of demo tapes and EP's, preferably on vinyl, of bands nobody has has ever heard of, who's logos are illegible, with audio quality so bad the music is indecipherable. That's fucking metal.

Krallice, I made a thread about them but no one seemed intrested... check them out though as theyre a really good American take on BM, if you havent got Colors by Between the Buried and Me I'd highly recomend that and both of Ihsahn's solo albums are awesome too

While I don't think there are any albums you need to have to be metal, here are some of my "super recommendations"...

    Carcass - Heartwork
Carcass - Necroticism: Descanting The Insalubrious
At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul
    Cynic - Focus
Lamb Of God - Ashes Of The Wake
    Bloodbath - Nightmares Made Flesh
Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress
Mors Principium Est - The Unborn
Testament - The New World Order
Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power
Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
    Soilwork - Natural Born Chaos
    Unearth - The Oncoming Storm

and then, of course, the obvious ones that I won't mention like "Master of Puppets" and "Reign In Blood," etc.
