Prompted by Joss vs. soapkid or whatever concept album thread... Seriously, I'd forgotten how amazing this album was until tonight when I started listening to it on youtube after posting it in that thread.
The opening track, "Endless pt.I," is PERFECT. All the more so after making it through the storyline and hearing how it changes in "Endless pt. II," the track that closes the album. The next track is kind of meh, but pretty much everything after that kicks ass.
Storyline, summarizing horribly here, is the narrator's search for identity and meaning n the face of a world that rewards conformity and homogeny. From celebrity worship to hedonism to religion to, eventually, drug addiction and a Fight Club style (the book, not the movie) overdose/suicide. High points are Endless pt. I and II, The Settling, The Feast, and American Theatric.
It's just one of the most perfectly realized concept albums I've ever heard, because for the most part the story doesn't get in the way of awesome music.
