Dunno if you guys remember or not, but I had mentioned a while back that I was going be DJ'ing at an anime & manga convention, the whole idea being that I'd play a set that was entirely Japanese rock and metal bands. I was nervous as hell, and didn't really know how it was going to be recieved, or if some of the stuff I was playing was going to be too heavy for them. I was wrong, and they adored it!
Started off with stuff like L'arc En Ciel, Gackt, Malice Mizer, X Japan, and things that people would recognise from anime, Maximum the Hormone, Abingdon Boys School, etc. Then some Versailles, Matenrou Opera, Galneryus and the like, but after that I started playing some heavier, more obscure stuff like Shadow, and people were still really into it:
Even got some requests for Sigh, which made some people very, very happy when I played it.
I had never DJ'd before, but oh my god the reaction I got was unbelievable! I had people coming up thanking me for playing things, I got bought drinks, people were getting up headbanging and airguitaring, there was quite a few requests AND the kicker is, not only do the con want me back next year, the organizers of two other cons want me to come to theirs and DJ too!
I had a seriously awesome weekend, and this was just unreal
Congrats on your first successful gig man!
