Yeah supposedly she's warming up or giving the engineer a scratch track or whatever - who cares? Even if that's true, any serious musician knows you never intentionally perform poorly. You use good form at all times because every time you're using your instrument, you're basically practicing and training.

    Hysterically bad.

I got to the 25 second mark before I felt this sudden urge to pour hydrochloric acid down my ears.

She's definitely flat, fairly consistently, but it's not NEARLY as tone-deaf as I'd have expected.

I've noticed a lot of out-of-tune singers fall into different camps. Some of them are sharp on their low notes and flat on their high notes, likely because they're not supporting and they are just "singing at" the notes. The others are flat on their lows and sharp on the high notes because they are straining and pushing too hard and they over shoot.

She's just kind of all over the place , but mostly the first.

To be honest, I seriously doubt this is the track they used for the final track. I seriously doubt the recording people were THAT lazy. Because there are parts where she sings a part on pitch that she had sung very off-key the last time she sang it. Plus, for parts that she sings three times, one time might be unbelievably horrible, another time might just be eh, and another time might be so-so passable. Then again, I don't know how people who use auto-tune think. They might not really care whether their starting vocals are anywhere near correct or not and just say "We'll take one take and use whatever we get." But I doubt that. I really do.

That said, she seems to be flat VERY VERY often.

I remember someone a long time ago saying that "if you're going to be off-key, it's much much better to be sharp than to be flat." And the guy did a long (almost annoyingly-long) explanation for why. I've noticed that that is very true for not only vocals, but also for tuning in instruments as well.
