Okay drove 2 hours to arrive at the concert on time (Casino Rama, Orilia).
Lined up to buy a t shirt. Choice #1 was only available in S and M. I buy the M and step aside to try it on. Way to tight. I line up again to talk to the same guy. Choice #2 same problem. I ask for a refund, he refuses.... so I end up with shirt #3 (on that I didn't want).
Despite that I put it out of my head because I was determined to have a good time.
Opening band was a local band from Guelph. Unfortunately the PA was off and I couldn't make out the band name. The vocalist sang with a high melodic register and was quite good. The band was technical and melodic as well. They had 3 guitarist, bassist, vocals and drummer which I though was unique. All in all not bad, played for about 30 min.
Short wait and Megadeth hit the stage with Hanger 18! They had a few vid screens with clips playing for their songs. A few of them were from movies like Silver Lining Playbook, Waynes World and Talk Radio where Megadeth is referenced. I liked the touch of humour.
This was the first time seeing them live and I really dug Dave's playing. Listening to tapes and CDs it's hard to tell who is playing which parts of the songs. I thought Marty played all the fancy stuff. Not so. Anyways, pleasant surprise.
The concert was about 90 min but all greatest hits so most people were probably pleased.
Dave's interactions with the crowd were warm, modest, sarcastic and funny.
Tones for guitar were awesome. Curious if he was using Axe FX or something else.
His vocals were good the only part he struggled with was the chorus of Sweating Bullets. Also, surprised how many hand gestures he uses when he stops to sing.
Band was tight and fast paced. Almost no stops between songs.
All in all very happy with the show but not impressed with the t shirt guy who didn't have enough merchandise to meet demand and refused.
Oh well guess a shirt that fits that I don't want is better than a shirt that I want but doesn't fit.
Glad I drove the 4 hours round trip. Oh and tix were only $50 to put me in the last row but it is a small venue and if this was an arena you'd still be on the floor.
Sounds like a good show.
