Hawkwind is the bomb, and one of the few mega obscure bands I am a huge fan of. Most people associate them with Lemmy, since he was with them in the early days, but most of their good stuff doesn't feature him. They are like the underdog Pink Floyd. That's a good live album, it's not printed anymore, but you can get it on the bonus tracks to Levitation. In terms of which studio albums to own, Hall of the Mountain Grill and Warrior on the Edge of Time are the best.
Lemmy left after Hall IIRC. You would have to have a PHD to memorize all of Hawkwinds line ups and releases though. Most people will tell you Space Ritual is the legendary album to get, but their best material was released after that IMO.
Hawkwind is awesome in terms of sheer not giving a fuck. That entire live album is just them not giving a fuck recreating space battles drugged out of their mind playing a 45 minute set that sounds like a Space Battle at Stonehenge (seriously). Ginger Bakers drumming on it is fantastic in my book. It's a bitch to track down.
