Not including your performing career, I'm curious how many here work for a company that is somehow in, or directly related to, the music industry.
No need to say WHO you work for--unless you want to.
The reason I ask is because my day job has absolutely nothing to do with music, and I've always fantasized about working for... say... Fender, Fractal, Ibanez, Sweetwater, Musician's Friend, etc.
Many years ago, I actually interviewed at Musician's Friend in Medford, OR, but didn't get the job because it was so early in my career that I didn't have enough experience. There were so many musicians working there, it seemed like a really cool atmosphere--somewhere I could kinda still be a musician for the 40-50 hours a week I'm at work.
I good chunk of my life has been spent some way or another working in the music industry. Spent 8 years with Gibson. A little bit with Warmoth and the last 8 years with a company called Rhino Staging. Been everything from a simple stage hand, forklift driver, lighting director and a stage manager with them. It can be fun at times but the days are long(16+ hours) and I've seen so many shows(good and bad) that it totally killed my desire to go to shows for my own entertainment. On the plus side, I've made so many contacts that if there happens to be a show I want to see I rarely, if ever, have to pay to go see it.
