Why am I not a fan?

Of Queen? I like Brian May and believe he should be praised as one of the greats, but the band as a whole I just can't get into really. Obviously I like some of their more popular tunes like Rhapsody and such, but I could never listen to an album of theirs and really like it as a whole.

Part of me wonders are they so liked because of Freddy Mercury and his killer frontman abilities or is the music really that good?

The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper "No. ― Alan Moore

That's how I feel about most 80s acts.

I'm not a fan but I will say they can write catchy songs, have great guitar tone, a unique front man and a sound unto themselves. Off the top of my head I can't think of a band that I associate with sounding like Queen. That's not to say they don't exist merely how rare it seems to me.

There are many reasons people may not enjoy Queen.

For instance, their work and stylings changed quite often - from album to album or from song to song on the same album, in fact. Some folks dig consistency in a band.

Still others don't care for Freddy's voice or the melodic way in which Queen constructed their songs. There are even some who dislike Brian May's "signature" sound. I, myself, found that while I liked the hits as a youngster, it took a while for me to embrace a lot of what they did.

Then there are folks who are just cunts.

All I can ask is that I suck a little less each time I pick up my guitar...

I feel the same way. I respect their legacy and the fact that they had a unique style and sound, but that's the very thing that turns me off about a lot of their music. I could never get into the whimsical theatrics and Victorian-era references.

Love Queen. Versatile band that excelled at everything from pop to metal to schmaltz.

I love Queen. Their older stuff was really progressive, filled with interesting twists and turns. Night at the Opera is just a flat out masterpiece.
