There was no advertising as to what kind of show it was, just said Zakk Wylde, so I didn't know if it'd be an electric or acoustic set. Turns out it was an acoustic, (though he was plugged into his normal pedalboard, with full on distortion) set.
I've been sick as a dog the last 2 days and the place was PACKED. I was actually quite surprised, the Culture Room isn't huge, but there were less people there for Sevendust. I told myself the second I started coughing I'd take off and after the 2nd song I started looking for an exit. I think I made it to the third song before I decided to leave and I hadn't even started coughing yet. 3 ballads in a row and after hearing the first tune with the distorted acoustic with a shitload of phase and wah....just wasn't feeling it.
I'll catch an electric show as I haven't seen him play live aside from tonight. He was one of my favorite and I rip off so much of his stuff, but I'm just too jaded/old/sick to listen to more than one song of that.
Zakk looked as bored as I was. I stuck around in the patio area they have with a projector and P.A. so you can listen/watch the show without being so cramped, listened to to more songs and had to bail. Way too slow...the second he went into a between-song solo I left.
Funnily enough I think I'd prefer to hear him play an acoustic set, because I've liked his acoustic stuff (e.g. Book of Shadows), while I thought pretty much everything else he's done has been poor since Pride & Glory
