So my Dad just bought a 1981 Mesa/Boogie IIB Coliseum (180-200 Watts), freshly re-tubed and refurbished by MESA.
I plan on making a clean & nice video at some point showcasing this Canon of Sound. It gets really close to the sound of John Sykes on the 87' Whitesnake album. However, he had a Mark III Coliseum. Really this head is only lacking some gain and high end like Syke's tone. It has everything else. However, throwing a Soul-Food in front of it gets even closer with the extra-gain. Love it. The leads cut-through the air like butter and the rhythm is so RAW with a heavy bass.
It's amazing having this amp turned up to like three and then turning on my Mesa Mark V on full-fledged 90 Watts. It was like I was hearing a combo amp compared to the Coliseum. The first night we had it and I played without headphones. My ears were still hurting that morning. It's A BEAST unlike any amp I've played.
The CLEAN TONE IS GORGEOUS. Just like the Blue Murder and 87' sounds.
At some point we plan on slaving the Mark V through this Head. So if anyone has a guide for slaving that would be fantastic.
Enjoy Guys & God Bless!
