Need some help with a reverb transaction

Is there a way to see how new the buyer is to reverb or their rating?

A guy made an offer on an item that I am selling.

    I accept the offer.

He then tells me he is having trouble paying because reverb will not accept Paypal Credit.

He then offers to send payment directly through paypal.

I send an email to reverb and they confirm they don't accept Paypal credit.

I suggest he gets a paypal account, approach reverb for help or ask a friend to use their paypal account and he can send them money via Paypal credit.

He then tells me Reverb has a credit company that he has an account with but it is not an option that is available. He says the only two options available are bank account and credit card.

This is odd because my profile is set to only accept Paypal.

I tried to set up Direct Pay but I think due to being new I don't have a rating so it won't allow me. When I put in my info it says the routing number cannot be confirmed.

I am waiting for a response..... I asked what payment method does he want to use so I can approach reverb to see what is up.

    What do you guys think?

PS told him I did not want to do the sale privately because Reverb will know when I take down the ad and they look at the messages. I would like to use them in the future so not worth it.

I would say don't deviate from what Reverb is allowing.... you can get them on the phone during business hours and they're pretty quick to sort things out.

This sounds a little fishy.... trust your gut and wait it out

Yeah that's what I thought too.

    Seems odd.

But I did manage to set up my account to accept the various forms of Direct Pay. I was having trouble using the app but the full website worked.

So now I will wait and see.

Yeah. There's no protection when you start deviating from the plan.

Once you go around Reverb's system, you're on your own... you either have to make things square with the direct buyer or PayPal and PayPal favors the buyer on almost every transaction.
All I can ask is that I suck a little less each time I pick up my guitar...

Did the buyer point out he was a dethroned African Prince who needed your help moving money to the US?

lol. I think he has a pile of cash dyed black that needs a special ink remover to turn it back to legal tender.

I am starting to wonder if it is a kid trying to buy my gear. it would explain why he wants paypal credit..... not going to happen since I would have to circumvent reverb. or he wants affirm. both methods are open to those without a credit card.
