I'm looking into snagging a Budda extension cab for my Superdrive. They're pricey, but I've been very impressed with the custom Budda speaker in my combo relative to other 1x12s and 2x12s that I've tried with it.
The extension cabs come in 1x12 and 2x12 open back and closed back. I'm looking at a 1x12 for some stereo imaging in tandem with the combo. The combo itself is pretty much open-back, with about 30-50% of the rear of the cabinet open.
I'm trying to figure out whether or not to snag an open back or closed back cab. I know that the open ones 'breathe' more, and the closed-back ones are more directional and supposedly 'tighter,' but I don't know without playing them specifically, and no place around here stocks them.
Any pointers sound-wise? Most of my musical is more hard-rock oriented, and I like a good sparkly clean response and a fair amount of smooth 'snarl' to the distortion character.
If you want thump, go for a closed-back cab. My Nomad is open-back, which is why I was playing it through my 4x12 at Kevan's, which is closed-back
