This idea's just occurred to me...
Basically, what I'm thinking of is a regular channel switcher for an amp, only one that kicks in certain effects for specific channels. For instance, you could have a compressor and/or chorus pedal that are out of the signal chain until you actually switch to the clean channel, at which point they're automatically inserted, or for the lead channel, have a tubescreamer or DS1 waiting in the loop.
I'm imagining it would look sort of like the Boss Line Selector, only with a line going out into the amp's channel switch jack.
So am I completely crazy? Would this actually be practical to design if no-one's already done it?
You could definitely do it, it's just a matter of how complex it needs to be
I get by pretty well with my G-Major, with changing effects and channels simultaneously... but you know... I think I could activate a relay-switched pedal with the FCB1010's relay outs, per 0-100 midi channel.
