For those of us who use Line 6 gear, multi-FX, or MIDI set-ups, how do you generally organise your patches on your pedal boards?
Personally, I like them in order of ascending gain, from left to right. At the moment it's...
1) Clean (hi-fi JC120 tone w/ chorus)
2) Crunch (gain channel on the IIc model with the gain turned all the way down to about 2. Option of getting a bluesly lead tone by engaging the DS1.)
3) Heavy rhythm (high gain Dual Rectifier sound)
4) Lead (Soldano high gain tone w/ DS1)
I prefer to use stomp boxes for specific effects (phaser, flanger, tempo-delay etc.), as I like being able to tweak them on the fly add them to my core patches as I see fit rather than having multiple banks of different sounds.
How does everyone else do it? Do you have some sort of system to make it easy to remember onstage if you have song-specific banks?
I do it pretty much like you do. I have 5 basic sounds on switches 1-5 (from clean to high gain lead) on my FCB1010, and then I'll put different variations of them on switches 6-10 (with different effects and such). Real easy to remember.
I intend to build a few different sets of 5-10 tones on the Axe Fx; modern tones, 80's tones, etc.
