My other guitarist Adam wants to get a tube preamp, and he and I both love the sound of the Triaxis. He's looking to buy one too, but I want to see about maybe him having a different sound than what I have.
My first suggestion was maybe a Rectifier preamp or an ENGL 530, but he doesn't want to go the amp head route, he really wants to stay MIDI capable and loves having presets. I've heard good things about how the high-end Engl preamps sound, but I've also heard there's a delay switching patches. Since I've never gotten to play one I really don't know. Once again we're going to pretty much stay away from the Rocktron stuff, not that's it's bad, it's just a sound I've used for so long we want to use something else.
We want to stay tube too, so no modelers, as cool as the AxeFX is, I've heard it loses quite abit of it's personality when you take away the poweramp modeling, which we would do when we play live.
JMP-1? I've played a rig with that and the Mesa 2:90, and it sounded and felt awesome!
