Default So I tried some Vee's yesterday

and I was really disappointed

Such a great looking shape but so uncomfortable to play sitting down, what's the go, are these a stage guitars only?

I didn't really like the explorer I played either but it wasn't terrible like the Vee's. I've been getting bored with the superstrat shape lately and looking for something different but shit the guitar needs to be comfortable to play.

Boredom means nothing to me. The Strat shape is comfortable and very playable. All that counts.

V's are OK when you're standing up, or if you play them strapped on in a sort of classical position. But you couldn't really give me a non-strat shaped guitar. Maybe a Les Paul. But V's, nah. They really just aren't too great for sitting down.

I find the Ibanez Xiphos really comfortable to play. It kind of just seems to sit right between the legs

You need to play in a more classical position with a vee. Place the V on your right leg, with the wings of the V on each side of your leg. The guitar will now be in the possition (more or less) that classical players use.

For me a strat shaped guitar is nearly impossible to play sitting down as I have to move it to my left leg and put it in classical position. The V shape is the most comfortable shape for me, with the X-shapes (explorer, star, xiphos, etc.) coming in second.

I've only played a V once and I found it very difficult to adjust to. If you try and balance it on your thigh, it just slides away, the headstock going towards the floor and the V points heading skyward.

Like you, I guess I'm just accustomed to Strat-style bodies.

The only V I've ever found comfortable to play sitting is the Rhoads V, and thats because the lower horn isn't as long as the upper, makes it easier to sit in a regular chair and play.

That's because you MUST use a strap, even when sitting down. It's really the only way to keep it stable and the right position.

A little awkwardness is the price Matt and I pay for being so much more metal than the rest of you fuckers.

V's hang very differently from Strats too. They put the neck at more of an upward angle (very comfortable) and there's nothing as as the feeling of putting your right leg forward while standing and locking the V on your thigh while riffing/soloing.

Too much focus leads to tunnel vision
Too much faith leads to religion
Too much knowledge leads to confusion
Too many guitar lessons lead to jazz-fusion
