For about a year now I've been using a Mesa Nomad 55 head and while it's a great sounding amp, channel 3 just isn't as loud as the others. It's been like this since I started using it.
In order to get the volume to match channel 2, I have to turn channel 3 up at least another 1/4 of the way. Both channels are on the same voicing. I use the modern setting.
Any ideas on what may be wrong?
I talked to an amp tech and he suggested checking the preamp tubes. Kind of odd, I thought. So I just ordered a heap of new tubes for it from Eurotubes. It could use new tubes anyway so I figured what the hell.
Channel 2 Modern is indeed outright louder than Channel 3 Modern, at least on my 45. the first time i flipped to Ch2M i was like, "OUCH!"
it's definitely one of the drawbacks of the amp. different modes are pretty fucking cool, but if their volumes are all over the map (Ch3 Vintage is quieter than the Modern, vice versa on Ch2, and Ch1 Pushed is stupid fucking loud), it becomes a useless feature for a gigging amp. studio amp, sure, but not for gigs.
