I was thinking the other day, I use a DIY RAT clone as a "tightener/crunch-ener" for my drive channel for rhythm, and the same settings for "singing lead" on my clean channel.
I usually have Volume at 3 o'clock, Filter at 8 o'clock, and Drive at a little bit above zero.
Everyone else uses Tubescreamers, but I like this sound better. Anyone else use a RAT as a boost, or am I just weird? I mean, I know I'm weird, but is this weird?
Also, I use it as a distortion (with dramatically different settings) for getting some extra 'grind' and sustain out of my bass rig in some parts of some songs. I love this thing, it is really versatile.
I like using a RAT as a boost and an extra gain stage in front of amps that don't have quite enough gain on their own, like a JCM800 or something similar. You don't get the same really tight and punchy sound you get with a TS, but instead it's more of a big, full kind of sound. I like it.
