I've owned a Pod X3 Live and run it through a poweramp, if you love your 6505+ you are going to be disappointed. Best advice I can give you would be to jump on the Line6 forums and read about any issues with the X3 Pro and ask questions about the loop, the Pod loop isn't like an ordinary loop, you can not just stick anything you want in it and the loop on my X3 Live was not that great, I do not know if they made the Pro loop better.

Go with a tube poweramp as James mentioned.

I should probably clarify a little...I'm not expecting a POD to exactly sound like a 6505+. I know they won't. At this point though, if I can get something close, or just something that sounds good, then I'm all for it. I just want to have maximum versatility with the best tone possible at a good price. Hence why I think this would work well. People have gotten awesome tones from modeling amps, hell even solid state amps (ive heard so many bands these days with Randalls that sound KILLER). I'm not looking to have 20 different sounds to replicate, i just want "heres my clean, heres my crunch, heres my rhythm, and heres my lead" and have my effects, and just have it all footswitchable with one tap of a button. thats all I need.

I love how my 6505+ sounds, but I dont have to stick to that tone. If I can get an equally awesome, but different (and usable) tone from something else, Im all for it. Im not being a tube snob. I do think they sound better, but Im okay with sacrificing a little tone for flexibility. Having something thats easier to record with is a HUGE plus for me too.

One downside i found out about is you can only use the fx loop on one tone at a time...so I can't say stick my TS7ovChaos in the loop and run it into a 5150 II and dual recto model at once, its one or the other. :-(

But you could use a TS in both patches.

Obviously, I like that you're stealing, er, doing the same idea as me, my only recommendation would be as James said would be to try a tube poweramp first. I snagged the Rocktron Velocity 300 only because I got a killer deal on it and I just absolutely had to.

Great, now I want to get an axe-fx and something like a mesa 2:90, a fryette two/ninety/two, or a randall rt2/50 and be done with it...if only I had the money...

So keep your current rig and save up. You'll save a lot of money in the long run by losing out on some immediate fulfillment.

A completely subjective discussion of semantics? Awesome!

This also, and get an Agile in there immediately if not sooner.

Believe me, I've been tempted to trade my Loomis for an Intrepid 8...
