the amp delivers that. The head goes for around $1400CAD new, and $900CAD used.

I highly suggest you go sit down with one

Peavey has never really been the "you're paying for the name" type - people usually buy the amp.

A shoutout to Scotty J for the JSX!

The JSX is a total gain beast, though. There's a TON of saturation on tap, way more than even Joe uses (and hell, he's back with Marshall these days anyway). Definitely spend some time with one, but if what you're looking for is a "good, all-around rock amp," and you're eying things like a Fender Twin, it might not be the right amp for you.

Yeah, if I recall, the JSX came because Satch was offered a deal and he took it, basing his amp on the XXX and changing some things he wanted, not designing something from scratch.

On topic, more directly, I've used a Fender Twin Reverb a bunch in the studio back in college, and the cleans are great, gain's only ok. That said, if you're going for a "rock" sound, it could work great, especially with an interesting distortion pedal. I played with a guy whose main tone came from an old Ibanez Tube King pedal (plus some Boss effects) through a Fender Bassman combo and it sounded great. Actually, here's a vid of him and it looks like he's still using the same gear (he's the guy with the Strat):

Well, I've been thinking. I say "rock", but some of my licks are pretty heavy. I guess I'd like a metal amp, but not a "thrash" metal amp. I'm thinking like a Godsmack or Disturbed sound.. .maybe a "tad" less...

I don't know how much they typically cost, but have you looked in Bad Cat amps? Steven Wilson uses these to great effect.

EDIT:

Both of these guitar players bore me...but here's a couple examples of the Hot Cat's tone.

I was just browsing Musician's Friend for the one thousandth time today and came across this amp:

Buy Peavey Classic 50/212 Tube Combo Amp | Tube Combo Amps | Musician's Friend

It's getting really, really good reviews..

That's a very low gain amp. It's more of a "blues" amp.

Dammit.. i had no clue buying an amp could be so damn difficult..

There are so many good options. I'm leaning towards the JSX and Fender Twin so far.
