You can't go wrong with a Fender imo. I really like the Twin Reverbs.

I Would go with Rivera, probably one of the Venus series instead of fender, they have that classic fendery clean and a beautiful crunch tones.

I'm not really a huge Fender amp fan these days, but three things stick out for me:

1. Getting sneaked into a blues club at 17, plugging an SD-1 into a Twin with an RG, and blasting some slightly nervous blues to a bunch of really fucking scary tattooed guys; the tone was sick.
2. Playing a '59 Bassman reissue with a TS; oh man, did that sound awesome.
3. Nuno Bettencourt's positively sick tone on Waiting for the Punchline, which I believe was a Vibrolux.

I certainly wouldn't mind a Fender (preferably whatever Nuno played on WftP) as a second amp.

I just can't find the love in Fender amps.

My Dad is an electronics Tech and I think he must have fixed every one of them ever sold in this area when I was younger. He'd always throw them at me to "test out" before he sent them back to the shops he fixed them for. It was kind of neat at first to try out so many amps but I eventually grew to hate it. Maybe because I've always liked more gain and could never appreciate the clean tones. Most of them were SS which probably didn't help. The old Princeton Chorus' were tolerable.

I've got a buddy with a Hotrod Deville and I still can't find the love. It is unquestionably loud but it has that "ice pick in the forehead" quality to it that I can't get over. I tried to give it a fair shake one day and messed with it a bit. He can be a little touchy about jacking around his settings too much so maybe I just didn't swing them widely enough.

I'd much rather plug into a Jazz Chorus for cleans and stick to a Mesa for gain tones.

Good luck with your pick though. Each to their own.

We're all musicians, still searching for our roots.
