More or less I posted this on ss.org, but I wanted to get advice here too. Basically, my dilemma is that I'm running a Line 6 Spider Valve through a B52 AT412. I like the tone out of the Line 6, and I'm not trying to get a tone overhaul, but I'm trying to get it to sound tighter, clearer, and a little more aggressive.
The main 7 I'm recording with at the moment has stock Ibby pups, but they are being swapped with BKP's as we speak. Here's my question....Will swapping these pups and replacing the B52 with an ENGL/Diezel/"Insert badass brand here" cab help my overall clarity and tightness in sound? Or is it really just the head?
I'd be inclined to say "just the head."
I expected to hate the Spider Valve I played, only to turn it on and be blown away by how surprisingly good the clean channel was. After 20 minutes of "wow, Line6 really nailed this thing," I decided to check out the gain channels, only to be seriously let down when they all turned out to be sterile, compressed, lifeless, and processed sounding.
