Kidding about the kidney part, at least until the bills come due.
Not kidding about the Mesa Quad part. Just pulled the trigger on one, which I'll have in a week or so (only delayed by my impending visit to Oregon to visit the folks).
I've been having Mesa Mark on the brain for awhile now, and since I already have a 50/50, all I really need is the preamp. Part of the reason I waited awhile is because I couldn't choose between the Quad and the Studio Pre, but I ultimately went with the Quad because of several reports of better sound quality, and the fact that it just has a lot more cool knobs to play with.
I know generally how to set the quirky pre-gain EQ it has, but any other hints about these? One of the main sounds in my head is close to John Sykes circa 1987. Of course, he recorded that tone through *two* Mk III Coliseum heads--I'm surprised he didn't crumble the studio building down with that setup. It appears I may need a clean boost in front to get that type of sound, but that's not a problem.
