I scored a MosValve last night and am now looking for the right cab which for me would be a 1x12 or a 2x12. I've looked on eBay but noticed that the shipping for the cabs is a pretty hefty charge which I don't doubt as those bitches are heavy
So after scouring my local Craigslist I found a few options as well as got offered a few options.
1) One offer is for what looks like an Avatar 2x12 half closed/open back with 2 Celestian G12T-75s. - $200
2) The other option is a guy selling 2 Mesa 1x12 Thieile Cabs.
1 cab has an Electro-Voice EVM12L, 200 watt speaker. Cover included - $350 (individual price)
- 1 cab has a Celestion Classic Lead 80, 80 watt speaker. Cover included - $300 (individual price)
3) Option on eBay for a Mesa 1x12 Thieile Cab with MC-90 Black Shadow for $250 + Shipping.
What is the best option for a very versatile sound including metal, blues, and hard rock?
Thanks - should I hold out for something better? This will be my first time buying a separate cab as I've always had combos.
The EV-loaded Mesa Thieiles are supposed to be fucking awesome - I believe Darren owns a pair and swears by them, and unless I'm remembering wrong it's one of the more popular (and hardest to find, now) speakers they've ever offered.
My advice would be to grab your rig, roll over to the guy's place, and try them both, ASAP. Then, make him an offer on your favorite - Mesa cabs smoke.
Though, if you're looking to spend $350 on a 1x12, you're awfully close to the range of a Recto 2x12...
Pass on the Avatar. I'm sure they do great work, but you're probably going to want a closed back for the heavier stuff.
