I have a Line6 DL4, and it's actually a pretty cool unit - three programmable, footswitchable delays, on-the-fly tap tempo adjustment, and a pretty sick looping mode which is just fun.
But, I was jamming with a couple friends of mine last night, and in my hurry to finish packing because I was running late, I forgot my normal patch cord. No worries, I though, I don't REALLY need a delay tonight, I'll just pull it and use one of my 6ft FX loop cables in its place, and just not move too far from my amp.
Holy shit. I knew the Roadster sounded a little different with nothing in the loop than with the loop engaged (and even bypassed on selected channels), but evidently it becomes more pronounced as you get up to gigging volume. Suddenly my tone was bigger, clearer, crisper, and just more awesome (admittedly, part of this was also because I didn't bother to bring my hot plate, because this drummer hits pretty hard).
So, I dig the DL4, but it's absolutely ass-raping my tone. I'm probably going to have to find something different. Any recommendations? I'm looking for as transparent a delay as possible, ideally with either at least two "presets" so I can change delay level without twisting a knob (a foot rocker would be cool, too), and definitely with some sort of EQ on the repeats - I generally like to cut out a bit of low end. I don't need it to do anything else, just delay.
The TC Nova Delay is pretty awesome.
