Question Are flatwound guitar strings suitable for Floyd Rose?

This might sound like a total noob question; I 'm not sure, but here goes...

The other day; a friend of mine suggested to me I fitted my guitar with flat-wound strings, he said the feel of them is a lot more comfortable. He even went as far to let me try out his flat-wound equipped guitar to try and convince me. I must say; it worked, the feel of them was nice...they also had a really nice tone. But since the guitar I use regularly has a OFR; would they be suitable for it?

I dont see why the type of trem would have an adverse effect. You should be fine. its not like the strings are too slippery for the trem or anything

agreed. To the OP, imagine the most dead, played out, ultra dull dark strings you can think of. Now take those strings, but make them feel like new strings, but still sounds dead, played out, and ultra dull. that's flatwounds. The only time they sound good, IMO is when it's a dark smooth jazz setting. And considering you're referring to a floyd rose, I'm not thinking that's the context you'll be using them in.

I bet, if you took an all maple guitar, with evos, through an old plexi with the loudness dimed, you could get a convincing normal guitar with normal pickups and normal strings through normal amp sound out of flatwounds

Goddamn do they ever feel awesome though, dude sure as hell isnt wrong about that.

Your tone will hane no pick attack with flatwound strings. They are made for playing Jazz through a clean amp with a very muddy tone. They are not "Metal" strings.

Reamping Available:
5150, Krank Rev Jr,
Bugera 333XL, Mesa Dual & Trip Recto,
JCM800, JCM900,
Marshall TSL & DSL,
Marshall & Mesa Cabs V30s or 75s

Yeah; my friend's guitar was a jazz guitar, thats why I thought it was worth asking. :P If their strictly for more jazzy guitars then I won't bother.

I doubt it, I bet you'd only have pick attack on the upper strings, the lower would still sound dead.
