Lately I've been thinking of auditioning a Mesa Boogie Mark V because it is very versatile and has the modern metal tone I am looking for in addition to other more classic guitar tones. But now I am considering a rig based on an Axe FX Ultra instead. I'm pretty sure I can get all the tones I want out of it, including killer Dual Rec tone, and I can do away with all my standalone pedals. Now, if I were to go with an Axe FX, what power amp would be a good match for it?
What I like about the Mark V is that it can be run 15W, 45W, or 90W, and there is no bias adjusting necessary when re-tubing. Is there a good power amp out there with similar features? I like the idea of running an amp at lower power levels to get tube breakup sooner and at lower volume levels. And, of course, biasing is a real PITA. Suggestions?
If you're looking at the Mark V, I'd go with the 2:90, and you can run it at half mode for that purpose
