Alright so right before thanksgiving I'm perusing ebay and I'm looking at preamps. Most Triaxis preamps I see usually go for 1000-1400 in decent condition with a few scratches on them. Alot of them lately have had a ton of scratches on top, dents in the front, bent ears, etc. and I've been kinda turned off to buying one lately, not sure what I'll get.
Then I see this one. Some store in Michigan has a mint-condition brand new 2008 Triaxis with a buy-it-now of $1249. Mind you, list price is $1899. I scratch my head. Then I scratch my nuts. I continued to scratch the balls for a few minutes ( ) then said, you know this is a fucking steal.
So it arrived yesterday! It also included the original sales slip showing the original owner paid $2012 for it, tax included. Apparently he bought it, then a few weeks later sold it to another store, I don't know why. This store was trying to liquidate it quickly and I wound up buying it. It was only on Ebay for 20 minutes before I bought it. I knew it would've gone quickly to someone else if I hadn't jumped on it fast.
So anyway, enough of the jibba jabba, here's some pics of this thing:
When I took it out of the box, I really couldn't believe it. The thing is in absolutely mint condition. No scratches, no rack rash, even the presets haven't been reprogrammed. Insane. I got seriously lucky with this one.
So I jammed on it for a few hours last night, and I must say I'm in love. I had one of these years ago temporarily and wasn't mature enough to get much out of it, but now I feel like this is more my sound than what I've used before. Don't get me wrong, I love my Chameleon, heck I own two of them, but I've used the same sound pretty much for the last 11 years, and it was really time for me to change. The Triaxis is a very versatile preamp and I'm already feeling really inspired just playing it here at home, I can't wait to jam with the band later this week and see what it can do fully-cranked.
Also, since the thing is so long, 14.5", I unfortunately can't fit it in my nice 6-space carpeted rack. The only other rack I have is an old SKB 10 space that's been in my outdoor storage for a few years. It'll do for now, but I'm definitely in the market for a new 6-space rack here soon. I'd love to get a Mesa rack, but they're unfortunately pretty expensive and it seems no one ever wants to sell theirs.
With the Chameleon, it's HUGE AC adapter, and the Blue Tube and it's adapter out of my rig, my rack is actually quite a bit lighter now too, which is always good
Anyway here's the updated rack pic, note the extreme frankenstein forehead this sucker has I totally need a smaller rack
I'll get sound clips up soon
You just need to put more shit in the rack though.
