I was at band practice yesterday and the icepicky highs coming out of those G12T-75's were just shitting me off to no end. I cant seem to eq them out. After years of taking abuse from this thing, I've decided it's time to retire it. I may refit it with greenbacks at some point and use it as more rock orientated cab for my JCM800 2203.
But for now I need a new cab for metal. Needs smooth but present highs, a strong midrange to sit forward in the mix and a big, tight and focused low end. I'd rather something with a fairly open projection, lazerbeamy cabs just shit me off. So, can you guys help me pick a new cab?
The rules are:
Budget is no limitation. As long as the dollars are justified I'm happy to save for whatever.
It needs to play nice with my Framus Cobra.
Needs to be obtainable in Australia.
I'm happy to go secondhand.
Cant ship from America. It turns into the best part of 500AUD shipping plus import duty and tax. That said, if you all come back with something boutiquey from The States, I'd have to think seriously about it.
Anyways, all advice is appreciated. Cheers guys.
Eminence Swamp Thangs. The low end is an awesome focused punch, the mids are very present, but are *just* smoothed over so it's not harsh, and the high end is glassy, but rich. They're modeled after V30's i'm told, but they're 150w a piece, and can take some crazy abuse. Plus they don't have the same ice-picky upper mid spike V30s have. They also don't have the same high price tag as a V30 (at least here in the states, they were $60 less A PIECE for me when I got them) I love to crank my 5150's clean channel and overdrive the hell out of it, and my cab screams.
