Default hd300 vbs hd500

Now that i have my computer back up on recording, and i've turned my pod 2 on again, i suddenly remember why i hated it.

Everyone seems to rave about the hd500.
Well, it's a bit pricey for me.
how does the hd300 compare?

from what i can gather, the 300 doesn't have
the lcd display
ability to use 2 rigs at once
signal path change (ie, stomp box order)
4 instead of 9 at once effects
128 vs 512 presets (5 is probably enough for me, so it doesn't matter)

anything else i'm missing?

just passing through....

The 300 doesn't have the loop either. My advice is to at least go with the 400.

The thing that sold me on the 500 is that it's the only one in which you can turn off the cab sims, if I remember correctly. I think the others have a recording option of sorts, but still colors the tone. At least, that's what I remember hearing when I was reading up on which one I wanted.

I guess it really just depends on what you're using it for

if the 500 is only one that can turn off the cab sim, then thats a deal breaker for me, as i would also like to use it 'live' as well.

damn

guess i can't cheap out

How about the desk top? I believe all the features of the 500 only minus the foot pedals and $100.

it doesn't promote itself for 'live' use in that form factor, and if i'm going to be spending $400+, it needs to do everything.

i don't need the 'best', i just need something that 'works'.

I paid $400 for my HD500 at Daddy's, open-box. There are deals around.

Fair enough. I was just doing a bit of philosophical wink-wink-nudge-nudge, that's all.
