I';ve played this one 6505+ head at my local GC for years now and it's just epic. It's got all the midrange I want yet it's not loose and flubby. Can go from EVH to Unearth style metal (which is as heavy as it gets for me).
Wondering if anyone's had the head or the new 1x12 combo? What are your thoughts?
Also how is the Rockmaster Preamp?? I love my Piranha but I'm liking the tone of the 6505+ a lot more. The piranha you need to seriously scoop out the mids for it to get heavy and by then it's setup like Rogers' EQ
Also if I got the 6505+ head - attenuation? I rock out in my garage with a Thiele 1x12 EV12L speaker - how would myself from going deaf from the shear volume?
6505s don't need to be that loud to sound good IMO. Sure they need "stage volume" to sound best (3-4 on the master as with the vast majority of amps), but they can sound good lower, especially boosted. They are somewhere in the middle of the "sounds good at lower volumes" continuum. Which looks something like this
Obviously missing quite a few makes, but thats the general ranking IMO. Unless you have to be extremely quiet (like quiet TV volumes or lower) 6505 into an EV loaded 112 will sound great at low volumes. EV speakers definitely sound better at lower volumes than v30s. IMO v30s need to be at or near the point of speaker excursion to sound their best.
