Turn the amp on and tap them with a pencil. The tap should be audible in the speakers, but not loud (relative to the amp). If one or more makes all kind of crazy dhit noise like springs made of crystal getting kicked around in the batcave, said tube is bad.
As far as tubes just being worn and not sounding primo, that's much more subjective. Compare the amp to itself with new tubes lol.
