To all the professional touring acts on this forum;
Do you guys consider name brand recognition when looking to get new gear?
I know outside the metal crowd, Vader, Emperor, and other more metal-specific brands aren't recognized whereas if you come out with a Marshall or Mesa Boogie half-stack people have seen it before.
Since you want to sell your product (music), would it make business sense to at least initially go for gear more recognizable to the general public? Provided of course it gets you the sound(s) you want.
The band plays shows to sell their music to the crowd. A non-musician doesnt care what the band uses for gear. However, the musician fan will be interested, but that wont affect album/merch sales for the band.
The addendum is if the band lands an endorsement deal and lands in a lot of advertisements. Potential musician fans may discover the band via the ads.
