So, sat on eBay last week I got an itch. It happened to be on the finger which was on the left mouse button over a buy it now button. I accidentally clicked it and this happened. What are you gonna do eh?
Here's a closer shot with it on...
The Engl is feeling the weight, but it's a meaty bastard so it can deal with it. German muscle and all that jazz I guess.
As mentioned by the people who know about these, the lights change colour on the front depending on what channel you are on. This obviously improves tone, because blinky lights = tone, fact.
This amp is a beast. I've not rehearsed with it yet so I don't know how it'll fit in that respect, however it has that 5150-style I WILL BE HEARD SO FUCK YOU type of tone so I doubt it'll have a problem in a rehearsal room or live.
The clean is decent, bordering on good. It's not Vox AC30 or Fender Twin, nor is it as good as the one on my Invader, but I could get by with it? Yeah why not. It's full and round, maybe missing a little bit of the bite I like.
The crunch is really cool. Gets quiet and bluesy, right up to full on rhythm chunk style tone at the top end. Full, slightly open and a bit raw.
The Ultra channel is brilliant. This is what this amp is all about. 5150-esque, maybe not quite as chaotic but not far off. It's also very quiet when not playing, I could have sworn my noise gate was on a couple of times only to realise I had not plugged anything into the effects loop. It has that 5150-style grind in there which is great for melodic death riffs, and has enough clarity to do nice galloping and things.
Overall, I'm happy with it. The Invader won't be beaten for me, but this thing is a very nice option to have, and will more than likely be used for recordings, rehearsals, my second band and just generally having fun with the damn thing.
Here's a quick video I knocked together of it. Playing isn't great but it gets the point across, stick through until the very end as theres a nice surprise waiting
