Ok you might be asking why I need help--- just go plug in- pay the dude and off I go... Here's my dilemma. My normal rig is a Triple Rec but for my new situation this is over kill even with a hot plate, plus I'm not lugging all that gear meself!
I'm going to be doing mostly pub gigs 100-200 drinkers. This new situation is a cross between Foo Fighters/ DRI / Clash type original songs that I will not need skull exploding gains.
So here is my question, I would use a Boogie Mark V if i had 2.5 g's burning a hole in my pocket... but I dont--- I have narrowed it down to that little Carvin V3M (micro ) 50 watts with a 2x12 upgraded to Celestions for about $900. On the right coast I have no way of road testing this amp so I'm taking a chance.
Or I could go with a Blackstar stage 60HT ($900.). I'll spare you all the spec's but Im digging the Blackstar. So why not just buy the BS? It's heavy to be lugging around 4 times a week at my age and I can throw the V3M in my rack, or from the looks of it my glove box....
So does anyone have any Carvin amps of recent vintage they can comment on? I have never had one nor known anyone who has. ( I'm leaving out the Trans Atlantic/Mini Rec for $$$ reasons )
Any thoughts would be welcomed before I piss away money I don't have too spare. Thanks!- John
Never played a Carvin V3M, so I can't help with that.
But if you want something similar to a Mark sound, you could do worse than looking for an old Mesa DC-5 or F-50. They usually go for around $500-600.
