I'm really digging the Roadster, but I'm interested in seeing if there's anything more to my liking on the market.
I know I really like the EL34-based sounds from Marshalls, and even the 6534+ I tried out as well.
When we had our CD Release show, the sound tech told me to bump my mids way up. I used my Deluxe tele for the show (other rigs were Gibson LP DC P90+Rectoverb 112, Fender Lonestar Strat w/ Pearly Gates bridge + Fender SuperSonic 60) - and I think I was a bit lost in the mix still.
I also recall when Eleven59 brought his Peavey Windsor over with the Warmoth tele, I was really liking the tones he was pulling. I've invited him to bring it back for a more A/B type jam.
When I go to the local pub, my favourite cover band has 1 guitarist with (roughly) the following rig: Fender Hot Rod Tele (racing stripes) w/ SD Custom in the bridge into: Morley Wah, GE-7, tuner. He used to use a JCM900 into a matching 212, and he recently switched to the JCM800KK (Kerry King sig). I've noticed he seems to have pretty much the same sound but with a bit more dirt.
This man makes my entire band moist with his playing; it's ridiculous. His lead tone is the type you hear from some of the greatest players (IMO - and I'm not up on all the greatest players ) and I know it's partially due to his rig.
I've re-EQ'd my Roadster since the show and our next practice is tonight: we'll see how it does. I feel that the low mid push of the amp combined with the British Leads in my 412 probably sits far better for a rhythm player then a lead player in a 2-guitar (sometimes 3-guitar) band. I'm also tossing around the idea of getting a cab with V30's to see how that handles the band context.
Part of the appeal of trying something else is that it's far easier for me to pick up another Roadster then these other amps I'm looking at. I've been using the Roadster with Arkham Dispatch for a year and while the amp sounds good in practice, I'm curious to see what else is out there.
I also have a friend who's selling a CAA OD100 Standard Plus, so I'm currently checking out videos of that as well.
I know tone is subjective, I'm just looking to hear about your experiences with the Rivera, Splawn and CAE
TL : DR - Roadster is decent, wondering about Splawn/Rivera/CAA
Going with the CAA OD100+ Standard!
