Right, to put my mind at ease here, is there a difference in level in my amps effects loop? I'm using a 6505 but I imagine all serial loops are the same creatures.
I'm snagged a new pedal and my effects rig is getting somewhat extravagant. My TC Electronic I know can handle it (it has the ability to recalibrate to a new level to avoid clipping) and my Lightfoot Labs Goatkeeper similarly has a level control if there is clipping. I never noticed problems with my Boss PN-2 Tremolo/Pan, Ibanez LF7 Lo-Fi or Boss Slow Gear (which is now gone) but I've just bought an ancient Dod FX15 Swell pedal.
It won't be here for a couple of days (Australian shipping ftw) but the reason the bloody thing is so hard to find, and expensive, is that it uses a long out of production optpcoupler that's worth more than the pedal is ($150 at last check - for one component!) and I didn't want to run the risk of cooking it.
Additionally, this will be my first old Dod pedal; I have a One-Spot that does standard Boss PSU sizes, and it came with a dod style adapter (the headphone style jack), but I wanted to check that no one else has used that adapter with reversed polarity as I have no way of checking that it'll be the right one...
You got rid of your Slow Gear?
