I love my 5150. It just kicks you right in the sack.

The 6505, the only new amp you can buy for a grand and get classic/hard rock, heavy metal, thrash, black, death, and other weird shit out of with no modding or pedals required.

Do you know what time it is? It's time to FARK SHEET ARRRRRP!!

I wouldn't say it's Marshally, but if you get the 5150 III 50w, you'll never want a Peavey 5150 again. I've always been a 5150 guy, it was my first real head many years ago, and the EVH version is leaps and bounds better than the Peaveys. It's like all the small irritations I had with the old 5150s (fizziness, need for a boost, lacking clean/crunch, etc) were all vastly improved in the EVH model. It's more than enough volume for band practices, portable size, MIDI, headphone out, shorted speaker output for DI use, etc. It's such a fine amplifier. I actually boost the crunch channel rather than use the lead channel, it's much better.

I don't find any fault with the 5150II and 6505+, but I still want to try a III just to see what's it's all about(because it may not be the hokey pokey after all).

Owned the original 5150 back in the early to mid 90's.

GREAT tone. I do regret letting that one go. Is what it is though. Just have a need for that much grunt anymore. We have mic's.

Bass: 8
Mid: 10
Treble : 2 (come at me bro!)
Presence: 4
Resonance: 7

Seriously, just try these settings with a tube screamer and gain to taste. It super huge, tight, and warm! (It's the Rosei Odonell tone!)

It works with guitar, AND bass! AND BASS!!

It's pretty angry sounding, but that's what I'm going for, sort of a giant dick shoving it's way into your ears. I was pretty surprised when I brought the treble down so far and it still sounded good, but the tube screamer adds a lot anyway. The best part is that with a boost it's right in rock n roll territory. I'm going to try these settings at my next show (hopefully the backline is going to be some sort of this amp) and see how it goes. Unfortunately, I may not be playing that show due to play to play and lazy bandmates.
