Default Stainless steel strings?

Two of the strings had snapped on my Loomis when it arrived. I had some spares lyin around, but I mentioned it to the store anyway and they sent me a free pack. The strings arrived today, and they're a stainless steel set of Ernie Balls.

I've never used a steel set, partly because I don't feel that I need the extra brightness, and secondly because I hear they can deal fairly nasty damage to your frets.

Is this internet rumour bullshit, or is there something to it? I understand that steel is harder than nickel (assuming these frets are nickel?) so theoretically they would be more abrasive, but is it really going to do any harm?

Also, I assume the top 3 strings aren't going to be an issue anyway, since even on a normal set they are bare unwound steel?

Wirelessly posted (Hivemind)

You might get 10 years out of the frets, rather than 15, if you keep with stainless, and you bend a LOT.

In other words dot worry about it lol

lol Yeah, I figured it wasn't exactly the end of the world, otherwise who in their right mind would release it as a product?

Still, I'd rather not use them due to the uber brightness of the Loomis anyway. It doesn't exactly need any help in the brightness department.

On opening the packet I realised that it is only the low E, A, and D strings, so fuck it I'll just keep the top 3 and the separate nickel wound 58 they gave me.
