Okay so here's a little backstory...It's long.
Back in the day I bought a g-system, and it was good. But my setup was in too many pieces, and I didn't wanna haul an 8 space rack with 4 open spaces AND a mesa 4x12 (in roadcase) AND my peavey XXX. So I thought, why not go all rack? Replace my 55lb XXX with 20lbs of rack gear.
This is where I bought an ENGL e530 and a 1U rocktron velocity 300. That was awesome too. Play a couple shows, then all of the sudden the velocity died (or so I thought) after I'd just used it, then gone to bed. Woke up the next morning...deadsville. So I pulled it out of the rack and bought a mesa 50/50. All of the sudden my rack was too heavy for me to lug on my own, and that's no fun. Sooooooo, fuck. Okay, rip apart the rack and sell all the bits. Figure it out later.
Of course, after this point my 50/50 is sold, 8U rack is gone, huge ass 4x12 of death is gone too (replaced with a Texas dragon 2x12), and my cables are scattered to the four winds. But lo and behold, channel 1 on the velocity still works. At this point I think, well I've still got 150 watts, let's just go modeller. So I get an HD Pro and throw it into my 4 space rack I've still got lying around.
Awesome setup in theory. Compact, decently light, big ass tuner, wireless, models and all the effects I could ever need. Just no foot controller. Whatevs. Here's where it gets disapppointing. I brought it to the jam space and gave 'er a half volume whirl just to make sure all was well, then I packed it up and left it until the following week.
Fast forward to last night. Get to the jam spot take off the lids and fire it up. No problems. Try to power it down to go check on another band i'm friends with...velocity won't power off. Power switch on. Seems okay. Power switch off. No effect. Seriously? I won't turn off? Try turning off the power bar. Ok that worked, power in the off position on the velocity, turn the power bar back on...It powers up. Wonderful so TWICE now the velocity breaks without me ever touching it. It still works fine (for now) but I've had it with this unit. As long as it continues to work, the HD pro will be for recording with the velocity for jamming at home (DO NOT trust it enough to take it out to shows anymore). So instead of buying a new poweramp for the HD pro, I'm just buying a fucking head and getting it over with.
Right now, I'm 90% sure I'm riggin' up the old g-system setup in a 4 space rack with an EVH 5150 III mini. Done dealing with this horse balls cheap crap that falls apart for no good reason.
TL;DR: Velocity 300's falling apart and I'm buying a 5150 III mini.
If you're still looking for a small poweramp, check out the Carvin DCM200L. 1U, 4lbs, plenty of power for a band. I got one a couple weeks back & it's great.
