So (much as it pains me to say it) I'm debating selling the old girl again and getting something else. I'm on the fence as the sound spread is awesome, but the tone isn't there with the amps I'm using. My other option is swapping speakers to a Swamp Thang/Legend combo, which does work for the sound I'm after as that's what my Zilla had. The other advantage is the price of used Celestions on Ebay would pay for brand new Eminences. But, I've no guarantee they'd work in the 3x12.
I'm also having a hard time cutting through the mix with any amp, my bandmate's Laney just sounds huge and totally dominate's the sonic spectrum regardless of what amp I'm using or how it's EQ'd.
So, my options at the moment are:
- Sell the 3x12 and get something totally different. Maybe another Zilla or a Marshall Dave Mustaine.
- Stick different speakers in it.
- Stick a better speaker in my 6505+ combo and use that until I can afford a Rectifier. But if I can afford a Recto, I can afford a 6505+/6534+ head. Erm, and still have the same cab problem.
- An off the wall suggestion from my bandmate - sell the 3x12 and buy a 2nd 6505+ combo. I could have a Swamp Thang in one and a Legend in the other, and my G Major is capable of switching channels and providing FX for both. It'd also give me the chance of a huge tone by EQ'ing the amps to make the most of the speaker in them, but lugging two combo's around seems a bit mad.
