Hey guys! I have been researching this topic and haven't found any info on this on any forums (as far as I read) and was looking for some opinions/thoughts on this.
So I'm in the market for a new cab, as my Mesa Traditional with V30's just doesn't get along with my Framus Cobra head (gobs of low, muddy mids/harsh highs/mid spikes). I believe I have narrowed down my search to the Framus Cobra cabinet with Greenbacks, or a VHT cab with P50 (I believe that's what they're called) speakers. The Cobra cab used is nearly impossible to find, especially in good condition, and I've been told that Mesa cabs are built so much better than Framus Cabs.
My question is, since the Cobra cab is so hard to find, would I be just as good or better off putting Greenbacks in my Mesa 4x12 "Stiletto" cab? I could find the speakers a lot easier than I could the Framus Cabinet. Has anyone every done this before? Would there be any noticeable differences in tone between the Cobra cab with Greenbacks vs a Mesa with them? Also, how does the Cobra cab compare to the VHT cab?
Sorry for the long read, looking forward to hopefully getting some responses to this!
the P50's in the VHT cabs are alot moe neutral sounding than V30's, they're smoother and fuller sounding. greenbacks give you quite a specific sound , I'd see if I caould tray a 2X12 that has them before I swapped out the v30's in the recto cab.
