I recently got back into playing electric guitar after a 5 year break, got a Jackson guitar and then last weekend a B-52 AT-100 tube amp. I got it with the matching 4x12 cab it often comes with, which sounds decent for the money, but a little loud for my needs at the moment.
Thinking about getting a 1x12, there's a cheap Kustom one that sells for $100, and I saw a Jet City one for not much more. These are just the lowest priced ones that I found searching for "guitar cabinet 1x12" on google.
Might be a dumb question but I've never had an amp head, just little combo amps and what not, and I'm wondering if small cabs like those would work with my amp. I know the Kustom was a 16 ohm, which my amp does have. It's got 4, 8, and 16.
Also wondering if anyone has experience with these, and whether they'd still have to be really loud to sound good. I don't live in an apartment or anything, but it's an old house with thin walls.
If you can find a reasonably priced Mesa used I would go for that. The Recto 112s pop up so rarely though that it is an absolute bitch to wait for one. Even then there is no guarantee that it is going to be priced reasonably.
If you want instant gratification go for Avatar. Solid as fuck. I had a Contemporary 112 I stupidly traded in towards my Mesa Recto 412 (I don't regret getting the Mesa in the slightest, but the trade in value I got was a pittance). You won't have the brand name appeal of a Mesa or a Bogner (my two favorite brands for cabs), but realistically speaking it's a box made out of wood, if Avatar isn't as good as those other brands they are at least 95% of the way there.
