Here's the scary part, the Roland Cube 80x I have actually does a pretty decent approximation of the tone I use from the 5150. I plan to have the Cube mic'ed up as a backup if I play out with the 5150. The Cube does a VERY good JC120 for the tone I like. The Cube don't move air like either one of those, but no one expects them too either. haha.
But yeah... both The Buffalo (5150) and the JC120 as just ridiculously loud amps!
Thanks for the kudos! I am definitely on a new-gear high. As I mentioned, I had one of these back in the mid 90's when they were gaining popularity. Never even heard of these amps until the other guitarist in the band I was in showed up with one. I thought he'd lost his mind dumping the Marshall for it. Then it fired it up. Sold. haha. I really hated selling that amp, but the one priority I have in life over music, my kids, required it. So... off it went and I didn't look back. Now those kids are older and off doing their own thing and... well... a project came up that needed high gain. My mind instantly went back to the 5150 I had. But, I wanted to see what was new on the market. There was some nice stuff, but I was just unsure. Then a friend of mine gave me a piece of advice and said, "I send several these amps you are talking about back to the manufacturer. Get a Peavey. I never sent those back." That did it. I was getting my old rig back. It's a beast.
