I have a 6505+ with no pedals at this point and I have seriously been considering adding a mxr 10 band, maxon, tube screamer and a sonic stomp. what do you think?
I'd skip the sonic stomp unless you've already tried one and loved it, but I'd definitely recommend the other two. I do like the MXR 6 band EQ also, though. It's a good option to explore.
Yeah man, go for it. A tube screamer will do exactly what you want. Plus with an MXR 10-band I think you'll be very pleased, it'll give you more access to different parts of your tone and you can tweak to your heart's delight...
...Or you know, to Lord Satan's delight depending on how metal you are.
Fuck the Maxon. Get the TS9DX if you're buying new. Same exact components as the original TS, sans a different input impedance, and selectable bass boost (in case you want to try it as a full saturated overdrive, not a tightness filter).
MXR 10 Band: I've never ever once found myself wanting or needing an EQ but to each their own!
Maxon Tubescreamer: I used to runa boost but don't any more - I found my sound has a lot more primal brutality and it fills the mix nicely without one, but fair enough. If you do decide to use one, buy an Ibanez TS7 Tone Lok. They can be had very very cheap and give you the basic tubescreamer vibe for not much coin, and if you decide you don't like it you can flip it quickly!
