My band, Recently Vacated Graves: True Zombie Metal has members spread out over a large area, so when we do shows, we try to make a weekend (or more) of it, and do short mini-tours. Typically we'll do it with a rented vehicle like a large SUV or minivan. We did one a couple weekends ago, where I was playing through a halfstack, the bassist was using a head and 4x10, and the other two guitarists were running modelers through the two inputs on an Alto powered PA speaker. It has since been decided that for the next mini-tour, I won't be allowed to use a halfstack, due to the amount of space it takes up in the van. As a result, I've been trying to figure out a reasonable way to get a sound I like, in a compact package, at a price point I can afford.
I just got a completely stupid deal on one of the Bogner Ecstasy Red distortion pedals, and I was thinking of something along the lines of that combined with a Two Notes Torpedo CAB or some other cab sim, into a powered PA speaker. I have the Torpedo WoS software, and I was playing around with it last night, and was struggling to get a sound I liked, even using their model of the cab I actually own. I was fighting with different mics and positioning, and all I want is the sound of an actual cab, rather than the sound of the cab through a mic.
Maybe I should just get a 2x12 for these shows
