I made a trip south of the Mason Dixon (that means I went into the land of racism and cousin bangin', the southern US, for you Non-North Americans) today and came back up with a little treat for myself. I sold my Marshall 4x12 something like a month ago and have been playing through my combo, with my 5150 and 8100 sitting idly by, in a cruel test of my mettle by the metal gods.
I grabbed this little puppy for a steal, and probably saved 200 bucks over if I had bought it new and had to pay shipping and crap.
Avatat 2x12 contemporary cab loaded with Hellatone 60s (broken in V30s). It weight half as much as the Marshall 4x12m it fits in my trunk, and it's in really good condition besides a bunch of paint scrapes on the sides from doorways. It's even the color I wanted!
Here it is with my setup all back to where it should be.
Overall I came out pretty good on this craigslist deal, and I'm very pleased with myself. It's really nice to be able to sit down and play through the heads I spent a bunch of time and money acquiring, and the rig is very flexible now.
And the tone I'm getting out of it, you may ask?
The V30s are EXACTLY what I was looking for. They smoothed out the high end and bulked up the mids so now I can just set and forget. And the low end is nice and tight too, I've been running both heads with no pedals and some tape-delay, which is netting me great tone, something I could have never done thru my other cab without mudding everything up. And as an added bonus the reverb tank in my 8100 even started working again!
Very happy. I can sell my combos now and get a little cash, which will go towards fixing up the few things that need done to my guitars, new wiring on my super strat, new pickup for my jackson, etc.
The lesson I learned today? V30 >*
Hell yes . I've been wanting one of those for a while.
