I've been attempting to research whether it's possible to run a bass through a guitar rig, I've been met with mixed results as there seems to be a few conflicting opinions floating around out there with regards to this. In essence I'm trying to 'get my Lemmy on' with my bass recordings (though worth noting I will be using the low B occasionally) and am aiming for a very dirty raw and distorted bass sound.
My question is, has anyone here done such a thing, should I even bother trying or am I likely to blow the speakers in my Orange cab and should probably just stop being such a tight bastard and just get a bass cab.
Are you blending this with a normal bass rig or DI? It would depend on volume. You'd probably be ok at real quiet volumes, but if you plan on recording with any real volume you will most likely blow the speakers, especially with a low B, unless you suck all the low end out with an eq prior to sending it into the amp. So I'd skip on using the amp stack.
Get your hands on a Sansamp of some sort and you can probably approximate the Lemmy tone pretty easily without having to spend money on a full bass rig, plus have a great DI for recording bass.
