Hey everyone. I've been taking lessons for the last five years. I've played a lot of classic rock and harder new stuff. My instructor started having me play some old Metallica and that is where it started. Now I'm completely hooked on 80's metal. Just about everything I'm playing now is Metallica, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Megadeath, etc. I can't get enough. I'm not getting the tone I'm looking for playing an SG '61 reissue out of a stock Blackstar HT-5H with a 2x12 Avatar cabinet with twin vintage 30 speakers.
Now here is my question. I don't gig or anything and live in a townhome development so volume can be an issue. What can I do to this amp to get tones similar to the 80's metal sound? I have a couple pedals at the house Boss os-2, ns-2 and a friend is going to give me a Metal Zone pedal to try.
What would the all knowing message board recommend to get the best metal tone at a moderate volume level? What have you found that works? I'm happy to buy another pedal or mod something I have to get there.
Thanks in advance
Welcome! I've heard great things about the metal zone pedal. You may want to try it with the level high and the distortion low so that it gives your amp a boost. Then start tweaking the pedal equalizer to taste. Good luck!
